On Saturday, we appreciated the opportunity to meet with Afghanistan President @AshrafGhani

to discuss efforts to advance peace and stability, to fight the drug trade, and to ensure that negotiations with the Taliban do not set back the progress achieved by Afghan women.

Taliban is a terror group

Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani and his rival Abdullah Abdullah have signed a power-sharing deal, ending months of political uncertainty.

Mr Ghani will stay on as president while both men will choose an equal number of ministers.

Dr Abdullah will lead peace talks with the Taliban, should they get under way.

The Taliban has traditionally drawn on ethnic Pashtuns in its insurgency against the Afghan government, but it has begun to successfully recuit disgruntled members of other ethnic groups as it expands its reach.

International community and Afghanistan government discussed the country’s development..

  • As of 18 May 2020, over 7000 Covid-19 cases are confirmed, with 173 registered deaths. While control measures have been imposed, Afghanistan lacks the resources, public health infrastructure, or testing capabilities to monitor effectively or control the outbreak.
  • Since the US-Taliban peace deal was signed on 29 February, violence from militant activities has continued with a recent campaign targeting high impact energy infrastructure (see figure 1), waves of attacks against security forces (see figure 2), and a general increase in IED activity (see figure 3).

A collision between two Afghan army helicopters evacuating wounded soldiers in southern Helmand province has left at least nine people dead.

All those who died were on board the helicopters, officials say.

The incident early on Wednesday in Nawa district was apparently caused by technical issues.

The area has seen fierce clashes in recent days between the Taliban and Afghan government forces, supported by US airstrikes.

Intelligence problem, maybe Trump is resposible for this kind of "corruption in intelligence operation".

The Taliban have been using drones to watch US troops '24/7' in Afghanistan. 2020/07/16 —

An American effort to train Afghan forces on using small drones has faltered,
